The Korean War (1950-1953) was primarily a result of the political division of Korea by the end of World War II. Korea peninsula was separated into two states along the 38th parallel in 1945. This separation did not only split the country geographically, but more importantly, the division of their polities which rooted the outbreak of the Korean War. Due to the vast difference between two polities which governed the North and South in variant ways, both their perspectives on the Korean War differed from each other. This research will shed light on their contrastive memory of the Korean War by analyzing works of art produced in both South and North Korea. This research also argues that both states utilize the educative nature of arts in order to instill and construct their image as victims.
